#1 Tree Removal & Trimming Service Provider
in Riverview
Tampa Elite Tree Service takes care of trees on both sides of the Alafia River in Riverview, from riverfront oaks near the old Peru settlement to the young shade trees planted in South Fork and Winthrop Village. Our estimates are free, and an ISA Certified Arborist signs off on every recommendation.
Few places in Hillsborough County have changed as fast. Riverview had 71,050 residents in 2010 and 107,396 by the 2020 Census, a jump of about 51 percent, and much of that growth was cleared pine and pasture turned into subdivisions. That leaves two very different kinds of tree work here: big, old river trees and young landscape trees that were planted badly or too close to the house.
We work off US 301, Big Bend Road, Balm Riverview Road and Boyette Road every week. If you live a few miles northeast, our crews are in Valrico regularly as well.
Riverview was founded in 1885 on the north shore of the Alafia, and the river still drives a lot of what we do here.
Hillsborough County places extra restrictions on trees within 100 feet of four rivers, and the Alafia is one of them. If your lot backs up to the water, removal and even heavy pruning can need county review that an inland lot would never trigger.
We flag that during the estimate so you are not surprised, and we write up the tree's condition in a way the county reviewer can use.
After Hurricane Milton in October 2024, the Alafia crested at a record 24.9 feet at Lithia, well above its 13-foot flood stage, and the water moved downstream through Riverview. Oaks and cypress that stood in floodwater for days can lose fine roots and decline over the next two or three years.
If your riverside trees were underwater, a tree health diagnostics visit now can catch root rot and Ganoderma before a limb drops on the dock.
Fast building leaves its own set of tree problems, and most of them show up 10 to 20 years after move-in.
Live oaks set eight feet from a foundation look fine as saplings. A couple of decades later, the canopy is scraping the gutters and surface roots are lifting the driveway apron. We can often fix this with structural pruning and root work instead of a full removal.
Queen palms are everywhere in Riverview front yards, and they do not handle our cold snaps or nutrient-poor sand well. Frizzled fronds, a leaning trunk or a soft spot at the base are signs to call us before it falls. Palm trimming runs about $75 to $300 per palm depending on height and access.
Riverview is unincorporated, so county rules apply, and most newer neighborhoods add a layer of HOA rules on top.
Hillsborough County requires a permit to remove a yard tree 12 inches in diameter or larger on a single-family lot, and any right-of-way tree inside a subdivision regardless of size. A fully dead tree with no living tissue is exempt unless it sits in an environmentally sensitive area, which riverfront lots sometimes do.
Under Florida Statute 163.045, an ISA Certified Arborist's written finding that a tree poses an unacceptable risk lets a homeowner skip the local permit. We provide that documentation as part of the job.
Many Riverview communities sit inside a Community Development District with an architectural review step. We send you our estimate, photos and arborist notes in a form your board can approve quickly, and we can recommend a replacement species if replanting is required.
Riverview sits close enough to the bay to catch strong outer bands, and inland enough that crews get stretched thin after a big storm.
Hurricane season opens June 1. Thinning a dense laurel or water oak canopy lets wind pass through instead of pushing the whole crown like a sail, and removing deadwood keeps it from becoming debris against your windows.
When a tree is on the roof, a car or a fence, our 24/7 emergency tree removal crews respond around the clock. Emergency work runs about 1.5 to 2 times normal rates, and a tree on a roof commonly costs $1,500 to $5,000 to remove safely.
A few things Riverview homeowners ask us at almost every estimate.
Lots along the Alafia and Bell Creek are more likely to fall in mapped flood zones and environmentally sensitive areas. We check before we quote, since it can change whether a dead tree needs a permit.
Most single-tree removals fall between $450 and $2,000. Very large trees over 75 feet, which we mostly find on the older river parcels, run $2,500 to $4,000 or more.
Usually, yes. We call Sunshine 811 ahead of time so underground utilities are marked, then grind the stump below grade once the tree is down.
